The tallgrass prairie of the early 1800s, a beautiful and seemingly endless landscape of wildflowers and grasses, is now a tiny remnant of its former expanse. As a literary landscape, with much of the American environmental imagination focused on a mainstream notion of more spectacular examples of wild beauty, tallgrass is even more neglected.

Today the tallgrass prairie stands as the world’s best remaining example of a diminished ecosystem that is more endangered than the Amazon rainforest. Here the largest remnant of tallgrass prairie rests on the rolling landscape of the Flint Hills of Kansas. At the Tallgrass Prairie Center, we strive to improve our understanding of prairie reconstruction and ecology while at the same time put more prairie back on the landscape to benefit people, the land, and other living things. The following are plant species that are considered invasive to Nebraska, and present specifically in the Tallgrass Prairie Ecoregion. This includes the counties of Antelope, Boone, Burt, Butler, Cass, Cedar, Clay, Colfax, Cuming, Dakota, Dixon, Dodge, Douglas, Fillmore, Gage, Hamilton, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Lancaster, Madison, Merrick, Nance, The Tall Grass Prairie HQ is a classic OK ranch house and the photographs show the bunkhouse history and pay tribute to the prize-winning cowboys who worked there in its heyday.
